I recently meet Terry Hudson at an artist’s meetup.  As she shared images of her work I was very impressed with her ideas, broad creativity, and technical expertise.

Later, as we each talked about our art, we found we shared a common interest in the power of human gesture. Gesture has an ancient symbolic place in art, especially stained glass.

Terry’s sculptures take gesture to another level.  Modeled and cast directly from her clients, gestures and poses become intensely personal sculptures. The casting techniques Terry has developed allow the clients become part of the creative process, which adds yet another layer of cherished memory to the finished artwork.

Much of our stained glass work is funded by donors who wish to honor a family member. One of my first thoughts when seeing Terry’s work was how many people would love to have a sculpture of a loved one’s hands as a deeply personal way to recall their loving touch or strength of spirit.

Terry loved the idea and gave me permission to put this post on our blog.

Here are some images of her work.  The pieces look as if they are cast metal, and indeed can be, but are actually a combination of plastic and epoxy painted to look like bronze. The detail she can capture is amazing.
